Has anyone noticed these two new classic covers? They are performed beautifully, with the nonchalant simplicity of her early videos.
Those who remember when she started out will appreciate these uncomplicated but perfect renditions. You can see there's no backdrop behind her except a darkened room, no edits, and I would bet that she's back to using the old Kodak Easy Share camera which made her world famous.
Maybe also even her broken desk lamp, LOL.
It's a treat to see these. I confess I couldn't watch through "I've Got You Under My Skin". It was one of my late father's favorite songs, and YB's performance was so wonderful that I was too overcome and choked up with emotion to hear it all, wishing he were still around to enjoy this.
I was recently invited to upload on to my channel some material from Ian Whitcomb, a Grammy award British star from the days of the early London Mod era of the 1960s (think Twiggy and 'Winchester Cathedral'; that was his milieu). I'm honored beyond belief to have this opportunity.
I'll start uploading around March 15.
He now performs old classics, from ragtime to MaryAnne's sophisticated 1930s Cole Porter-esque repertoire, on ukulele, with traditional jazz ensembles, and he's great fun. He also focuses on simplicity and the same kind of directness that YB is noted for.
When I told him about Ysabellabrave, this stupendous young star, and I sent him some Youtube links, he replied, "I have seen the female singer that [all of you fans] adore. Scrumptious!"
Scrumptious. MaryAnne is scrumptious. As if we didn't know, but what a hoot to hear it from a veteran star of the pop music biz.
